Residents in Sachs Harbour, N.W.T., face a boil water advisory as a precautionary measure due to operational issues at the local treatment plant.
Boiling Requirements
Officials direct all residents to boil water intended for consumption for a minimum of one minute. This applies to drinking water, food preparation, hot and cold beverages, ice cubes, washing produce, and dental hygiene. Public fountains remain off-limits during the advisory.
Cause of the Issue
Frozen intake and truck-fill pipes have halted the plant’s ability to draw and treat water. Crews are performing manual chlorination as a temporary solution.
Health and Resolution Update
No illnesses related to the water supply have surfaced in the community. The hamlet and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs collaborate to fix the problem and plan to notify residents once the advisory lifts.
