Two child chimpanzees have been born on the Los Angeles Zoo, the primary in 11 years.

The primary was born Aug. 20 to chimpanzees Yoshi, 35, and Pu’iwa, 26, zoo officers mentioned in a press launch. The second was born Sept. 9 to a chimpanzee named Vindi, 18, the officers mentioned. The infants, each unnamed females, are bonding with their moms, they mentioned.

“Having identified Yoshi and her household for almost 30 years, and watching her develop up, it’s so beautiful to see her as a brand new mom once more,” mentioned Megan Fox, senior animal keeper on the L.A. Zoo, in an announcement. The child is the primary for Vindi, she mentioned.

The zoo has a breeding program administered by the nonprofit Assn. of Zoos and Aquariums that’s designed to extend the genetic range of the chimpanzee inhabitants in North America, the discharge states. Chimpanzees are categorized as endangered by the Worldwide Union for Conservation of Nature.
