A Winnipeg man faces life in prison after a Court of King’s Bench jury convicted him of five counts of second-degree murder in a deadly shooting at a West Broadway rooming house.
Quick Jury Verdict
The jury delivered its verdict just hours after beginning deliberations in the trial of Jamie Felix, who pleaded not guilty to the 2023 killings. The rooming house had become a notorious drug den before the incident.
Trial Evidence
Over the two-week trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Felix spent several days at the house consuming crack cocaine and alcohol prior to the shooting. He later confessed to his ex-girlfriend that he fired the fatal shots inside one of the units.
Victims Identified
The victims include sisters Crystal Beardy, 34, and Stephanie Beardy, 33; Melelek Lesikel, 29; Dylan Lavallee, 41; and Shawn Marko, 56.
Prosecution and Defense Arguments
Prosecutors argued Felix acted out of paranoia during the rampage. The defense countered that he was set up as a patsy in a scheme orchestrated by his late father.
