A portion of Angeles Crest Freeway is closed after winter storms broken the winding mountain highway that affords vacationers gorgeous views and entry to forested mountain climbing trails.
Authorities closed State Route 2 between Cedar Springs, 3.3 miles east of Newcomb’s Ranch, and State Route 138 on Christmas Eve, in line with the California Division of Transportation. The highway close to Angeles Nationwide Forest is broken in a minimum of 4 areas, stated the company.
Photographs shared by the company on social media confirmed the snow-lined freeway affected by boulders and particles and expanses of it buckled and damaged. A wheel loader was used on Tuesday to maneuver an enormous boulder off the highway, video shared by Caltrans confirmed.
The closure comes months after a 10-mile stretch of the freeway reopened following a multiyear closure because of storm and wildfire harm that value about $7.9 million to restore. Again-to-back stormy winters weakened the slopes beneath parts of the freeway and burn scars above it made the hills susceptible to rockslides.

There isn’t any estimated time of reopening, CalTrans stated.
