A towering 502-foot (152-meter) chimney stack at the former Aberthaw power station has been brought down in a meticulously planned controlled explosion. The demolition marks the end of an era for the prominent Welsh landmark, which was completed in 1964.
Landmark Cleared for Green Energy Future
The razing of the chimney is a significant step in clearing the site to make way for a new green energy park. Aberthaw, located in the Vale of Glamorgan, held the distinction of being Wales’ last coal-fired power station before its closure in 2020.
Public Witnesses Historic Demolition
On Friday morning, members of the public gathered at an official viewing point at Fonmon Castle to witness the dramatic demolition. The controlled blast was visible from the designated area, offering onlookers a unique perspective on the dismantling of the structure.
The footage capturing this moment was expertly edited, highlighting the precision and scale of the operation.
