The 405 Freeway by way of the Sepulveda Cross will likely be partially closed this weekend as a years-long repaving effort begins.
“The freeway will likely be lowered to a few lanes in every course and motorists are strongly inspired to hunt alternate routes and discover public transportation choices to succeed in their locations,” the California Division of Transportation mentioned in an announcement.
The repaving will happen over 10.2 miles of the 405 between Van Nuys and Westwood, based on Caltrans.
Crews will repave sections of two lanes in every course, change signage and improve guardrails and curb ramps.
The $143.7-million mission may also trigger lane closures Sept. 19 by way of Sept. 22 and is finally scheduled to be accomplished in winter 2028-2029. The company mentioned the mission will finally restore 92 miles of lanes and would require as much as 25 weekend closures.
The fixes to the Sepulveda Cross, “a route that experiences heavy, steady visitors whereas serving essential commuter and business wants,” will enhance security for drivers, Caltrans mentioned.
