Australian snowboarder Scotty James’s sister, Rebecca James, has strongly criticized an Instagram post from The Project’s account following his silver medal win at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.

The Controversial Social Media Post

The @theprojecttv Instagram account, managed by Rove Enterprises despite the show’s cancellation by Channel 10 in 2025, shared a photo of the 31-year-old athlete after the men’s halfpipe final on Friday. The post included a direct quote from James: ‘Put a bloody smile on your face, you sook, and go have a beer.’ This reflected his lighthearted response after securing silver.

Rebecca James’s Outraged Response

Rebecca James, engaged to Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac, initially mistook the post for an insensitive remark and commented: ‘How dare you!!!! Such a disappointing comment by you.’

Commenters clarified that the account was quoting her brother directly. Rebecca replied that the post lacked clarity and remained ‘terrible’ regardless. Others echoed her sentiment, with one stating, ‘Poor post, give it context. You should know better,’ and another calling it ‘disgusting.’

Scotty James’s Historic Olympic Performance

James finished second in the halfpipe final, edged out by Japan’s Totsuka Yuto, who earned a perfect 95.00 score on his second run. This silver medal marks James’s third Olympic podium, making him the first Australian to achieve three medals in snowboarding: bronze in PyeongChang 2018 and silver in Beijing 2022.

Background on The Project’s Social Media

The Project aired nearly 4,500 episodes over 16 years before Channel 10 axed it in June 2025, replacing it with 10News+. Rove Enterprises continues to operate the Instagram page, independent of Channel 10.
