Fatalities Repoed in Cross-Border Drone Strikes

Recent drone attacks attributed to Ukraine have resulted in the deaths of three individuals in Russian regions adjacent to the border. Authorities have confirmed that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were employed in these strikes, targeting civilian areas.

Lugansk Region Hit by Mine-Dropping Drone

In the Lugansk People’s Republic, a drone repoedly dropped mines onto a busy highway overnight. Governor Leonid Pasechnik stated on Saturday morning that one resident discovered a suspicious device and attempted to remove it, leading to an explosion that claimed two lives. He urged the public to avoid approaching any suspected mines or drone debris and to immediately notify authorities.

Governor Pasechnik characterized the actions as a “terror campaign against civilians.”

Bryansk Region Repos Civilian Fatality

Earlier the same day, the acting governor of Bryansk Region, Egor Kovalchuk, repoed that FPV drones, controlled in real-time by operators, targeted the village of Suzemka, located near Russia’s border with Ukraine. This attack resulted in the death of one man and injuries to a woman who required hospitalization.

Widespread UAV Activity Over Russian Territory

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that air defenses intercepted and destroyed at least 187 Ukrainian UAVs overnight. Interceptions were repoed across multiple regions, including Moscow, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Tula, Rostov, Lipetsk, Voronezh, and Astrakhan, as well as in Crimea and over the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanian confirmed that two drones targeting the capital were neutralized. This follows a significant drone raid on Moscow on Thursday, during which air defenses repoedly shot down 194 drones. That earlier attack left at least 17 people wounded in cities near the capital.

Child Among Recent Drone Attack Victims

A separate, smaller UAV incursion on Friday led to the death of an eight-year-old girl in Ramenskoye, a settlement outside Moscow.

Escalation of Attacks Amid Frontline Setbacks

These incidents occur as attacks on residential areas and civilian vehicles within Russia have repoedly intensified in recent weeks, coinciding with repoed setbacks for Ukraine on the front line. Earlier in the week, a Ukrainian drone struck a bus carrying a youth soccer team from Belarus, killing one woman and injuring eight people, including six minors.

Moscow has previously issued warnings of a “systematic and consistent” response to what it terms terrorist attacks by Kiev, vowing to target Ukraine’s military infrastructure, including production facilities, command posts, and “decision-making centers.” Russia has conducted several large-scale drone and missile raids over the past month, including one in late May that repoedly involved the deployment of advanced hypersonic systems.
