John Fury has publicly called on his son Tyson Fury to abandon his latest boxing comeback, labeling him a “part-time family man” toward wife Paris. The heavyweight champion prepares to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, marking 18 months since his loss to Oleksandr Usyk and his fifth return from retirement.

John Fury Voices Strong Opposition

John Fury opposes the decision, describing it as an “addiction.” During Monday’s press conference for the fight, he expressed frustration over Tyson’s choice. “I’m still not happy about his decision to return to the ring,” John stated. “He’s done what he’s up to do in his career. Two-time heavyweight champion of the world, made plenty of money. He’s nothing to prove to nobody, and yet he’s here again. Don’t know what it’s about. I really don’t, but he needs to stop.”

John highlighted the pull of fame, noting, “I’ve been saying this for the last four years, but it’s falling on deaf ears. All I can say is, it’s an addiction. Once you’ve been in the spotlight for so many years you crave it. Then, all of a sudden your phone stops ringing, the people stop patting you on the back. The cheers and the noise die down. Some people can’t handle it, and he’s obviously one of those people that can’t.”

Concerns Over Family and Influence

John suggested the “Gypsy King” persona has overshadowed Tyson’s personal life. “The Gypsy King has taken him over completely. He is the Gypsy King. Tyson Fury got lost a few years ago on the road somewhere. This man’s a Gypsy King, the entertainer, the fighter. He’s a part-time family man because this is his love. Boxing is his first and foremost.”

John anticipates limited involvement in Tyson’s training camp or fight night, believing camp insiders aim to sideline him. “Will I be in Thailand for camp? Probably not,” he said. “I’m the key to his career and people know that. That’s why they want me out of the way. I only want the best for him.” The remarks follow Tyson’s claim that “everybody cut me out” after announcing his return.
