The European Golden Shoe crowns Europe’s leading league goalscorer annually. Kylian Mbappé captured the 2024-25 prize with 31 goals across 34 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid. Players from outside the top five leagues—Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1—rarely prevail; the last was Mario Jardel with Porto in 2001-02. Elite forwards like Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Mbappé defend or chase the honor as the 2025-26 campaign heads into decisive stages.

Award Calculation Explained

UEFA applies multipliers based on league competitiveness via coefficient rankings: goals in top-five leagues count double, those in positions six to 22 get 1.5 times value, and lower leagues receive no multiplier. This setup favors strikes in England’s Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A, and France’s Ligue 1.

Standout Contenders

Harry Kane tops the standings as the first top-flight player to reach 30 league goals this season. The Bayern Munich striker, already a prior winner, emerges as the clear frontrunner for a second European Golden Shoe.

Kylian Mbappé aims to defend his title at Real Madrid, though stiff competition tests his repeat bid. Erling Haaland, who claimed the award in 2022-23 with Manchester City, pushes for another triumph.

Igor Thiago nets 18 Premier League goals for Brentford, positioning the 24-year-old Brazilian for a Brazil 2026 World Cup spot. Sporting CP’s Luis Suárez, aged 28, eclipses 20 goals in Portugal’s league, where strikes carry a 1.5 multiplier.

Vedat Muriqi sits second in La Liga scoring with 16 goals for relegation-battling Mallorca. Benfica’s Vangelis Pavlidis hunts tallies in Portugal’s competitive circuit to challenge higher. Antoine Semenyo tallies 15 league goals split between Bournemouth and Manchester City following his £65 million January switch to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Darko Lemajic piles up strikes in Latvia, but the base multiplier hampers his ranking. Germany’s Deniz Undav shares second in Bundesliga scoring. Luis Díaz dazzles on Bayern Munich’s wing post-Liverpool exit, though wingers earn no special recognition here.

Mason Greenwood co-leads Ligue 1 scoring with Marseille during his career resurgence. Fellow Ligue 1 pacesetter Joaquín Panichelli impresses quietly at Strasbourg. Inter’s Lautaro Martínez eyes 20-plus Serie A goals, while Chelsea’s João Pedro—signed from Brighton for up to £80 million—targets 15-20 in his debut Stamford Bridge campaign.
