A Colorado resident from Alamosa experienced a life-changing moment after a challenging workday, securing a $1 million prize from a $20 200X scratch-off lottery ticket purchased at a local Walmart Supercenter.

Turning a Rough Day into Riches

Jonathan G, working as a cellphone sales representative, faced a difficult sales day before deciding to buy the ticket. Quick scratches uncovered the top prize, leaving him in disbelief.

“I was having a tough sales day and it actually paid off. My reaction was total disbelief,” Jonathan G stated.

For years, he endured unemployment and housing instability, including time in shelters. He typically played $5 scratch-off tickets, yielding small wins up to $20 at best. This time, an inner voice prompted him to splurge on the $20 ticket.

“Something in my head said, ‘Hey, why not try for that $20 one? What’s the worst that could happen?’ It was one of the best decisions I ever made,” he shared.

Plans for the Future

From instability to steady employment and a stable home, Jonathan G now eyes a brighter future for his family. “I definitely plan on giving my girlfriend and kids a life that I never thought was possible,” he said. “A little hope and perseverance and a gift of luck are going to give us a life we have been working very hard to have.”

The 200X game offers slim odds for the $1 million jackpot—one in 1,080,000 players. Most break even or win minor amounts.

Lottery Benefits and Recent Disputes

Colorado Lottery proceeds fund statewide conservation and education programs.

Recently, an Arizona Circle K manager, Robert Gawlitza, 44, faces a legal battle over a $12.8 million ‘The Pick’ jackpot from an unclaimed customer ticket. On November 25, 2025, at a Scottsdale store, a customer printed 85 tickets but paid for 60, leaving others behind. Gawlitza bought the remaining tickets for $10, scanned them, and claimed the winner—the fourth largest in game history.

Store management seized the ticket, citing state regulations, and holds it pending a court decision on ownership.
