Mohamed Salah faces a stark warning from Egypt’s national team director, Ibrahim Hassan, who advises against a switch to Major League Soccer following his Liverpool departure this season. Such a move, Hassan argues, would push the 33-year-old forward out of the global spotlight.

Salah wraps up a stellar nine-year tenure at Liverpool, securing two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy, but he has not yet revealed his next destination.

Preference for European Stay

Hassan favors Salah remaining in Europe, citing interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Italian clubs. “Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe,” Hassan stated. He dismissed MLS ambitions, noting, “A move to MLS? He would be far too out of the spotlight. You won’t remember Salah any more than I remember [Lionel] Messi now; I don’t even try to watch him.”

Messi, after triumphs with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain—including the 2023 World Cup—joined Inter Miami and now holds the club’s all-time scoring record.

Saudi League as Viable Alternative

If European offers fall short, Hassan views the Saudi Pro League as a strong choice, boosted by stars like Cristiano Ronaldo. “If he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano [Ronaldo],” said Hassan, twin brother of Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan.

Salah’s Current Status and Egypt’s World Cup Prep

Injury sidelines Salah from Egypt’s training camp as the team gears up for the North American World Cup. Egypt recently thumped Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Jeddah and faces Spain in a Barcelona friendly on Tuesday.

The seven-time African champions land in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran for the tournament spanning June 11 to July 19.

MLS commissioner Don Garber expressed enthusiasm for Salah’s potential arrival, though no firm pursuits from league teams have surfaced.
