Jannik Sinner captured the Miami Open men’s singles title by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in a rain-interrupted final, achieving the coveted Sunshine Double.

Men’s Singles Final: Sinner Dominates Despite Delays

The final began after multiple rain suspensions, with Sinner securing the first set 6-4. Lehecka, who had not faced a break of serve in his previous five matches, finally yielded in the third game. Sinner maintained control, winning 100 percent of his first-serve points in the opener and posting a performance rating of 9.1.

Play halted again at 0-0 (15-30) in the second set, but resumed later under clearing skies. Sinner closed out the match around 1 a.m. BST, joining an elite group as the eighth man to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same year—the first since Roger Federer in 2017.

Sinner eyed history, having won all prior matches in straight sets. Victory marked him as the first to complete the Sunshine Double without dropping a set across both tournaments.

Women’s Doubles: Siniakova and Townsend Claim Title

Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the women’s doubles crown, defeating top seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini 7-6(0), 6-1. The match shifted courts due to rain and paused with the Italians serving at 5-6 (40-0) in the first set.

Upon resumption, Errani and Paolini forced a tiebreak but lost it 7-0 without winning a point. The Czech-American pair then dominated the second set, winning the final six games to secure their Sunshine Double.

Rain Delays Plague Final Day

Persistent showers disrupted proceedings throughout Sunday. The women’s doubles final suspended around an hour in, with drying machines deployed repeatedly. Officials adjusted schedules multiple times, pushing the men’s final start from 3 p.m. local time to as late as 6:45 p.m.

Before facing Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, Sinner noted, “Let’s see also the weather forecast. It’s also not promising, but we hope for a day as dry as possible, and that we have a chance to play. No matter what happens now in the final, of course, I will give it the best shot. But reaching the final here is good for me.”

What is the Sunshine Double?

The Sunshine Double honors players who conquer both Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open in one season. Sinner joins Aryna Sabalenka (women’s singles) and Siniakova/Townsend (doubles) as recent achievers this weekend.

In his post-match speech, Sinner dedicated the win to fellow Italian F1 star Kimi Antonelli.
