Asda introduces a convenient new laundry service through a partnership with ME Group International. The retailer plans to install up to 700 Wash.ME self-service machines in supermarkets across the UK, enabling shoppers to wash and dry clothes or bedding while completing their grocery runs.

This service proves particularly useful for individuals lacking home washing machines or dryers, as well as those handling oversized items like duvets.

Launch Details

The machines launch in May and appear outside Asda Supercentres, Superstores, supermarkets, and Express locations nationwide. Exact store lists remain undisclosed.

Machine Features

Each unit features large-capacity drums of 9kg and 20kg, high-speed drying, and 24/7 access at select sites.

Joseph Sutton, vice president of Asda Express, foodservice, and fuel, stated: “We’re always looking for new ways to make life easier for the customers who shop with us, particularly by strengthening the breadth of services that meet their needs under one roof. This large-scale rollout of Wash.ME units gives customers a quick, convenient and great-value way to tackle their laundry while they shop. We’re pleased to be working with ME Group on this significant partnership and look forward to seeing the benefits it brings to customers across the UK.”

Pricing

Wash.ME lists wash cycle costs between £5.50 for 8-9kg loads and £11 for 18-20kg loads, including detergent. Optional add-ons include pre-wash, softener, and disinfectant.

Customer Feedback

Users praise the machines for convenience despite higher costs. Rob Barchou noted: “We’ve been using them for years. They’re quite expensive but also super convenient. Just make sure the dryer is working before putting a wash in.”

Martin Hutchings added: “They can be really useful for large loads and quick drying (as long as it’s working). Need to check they are clean before you put your load in, though. They do get used for horsey stuff sometimes.”

Annette Welch shared: “I used them recently for a duvet covered in cat sick! I also had two loads of washing I’d done at home which needed drying. I couldn’t fault the washer or dryer, and I got it all done in just over an hour and a half. Costs about the same as the laundrette.”

Asda shoppers on Reddit call it “great news,” with one explaining: “Launderettes might seem extortionate, but you can do like 1-2 weeks washing in one load.” Some express concerns that it could backfire.
