Star Trek icon William Shatner, famed for portraying Captain Kirk, reveals he is not ready to die at age 95. His primary motivation to live stems from his deep love for family and pets.
Motivation Rooted in Love for Family and Dogs
Shatner emphasizes his desire to remain healthy and functional. He states, “I don’t want to die. That’s my motivation. I’m looking at 95, are you kidding me? I want to stay healthy and functioning, and I’d like to pass away in my sleep because… I have people I love, my family, my dogs.”
Animals hold a central place in his life. Dogs typically live 10 to 15 years, and Shatner contemplates the inevitable loss with sadness. “I think with sadness that one of us is going to die before the other, and I’ll be sadder if they die before me. I’ll relinquish my sadness if I die before them,” he shares.
Recent Health Scare and Quick Recovery
In September 2025, Shatner sought hospital treatment for a blood pressure issue. His agent confirmed he is now 100% healthy. Shatner himself dismissed concerns, saying, “Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. I overindulged. I thank you all for caring, but I’m perfectly fine.”
Combating AI-Generated Health Hoaxes
Shatner faces ongoing challenges from AI-manipulated fake news. Trolls spread false claims about stage 4 brain cancer, conflicts, and impending death via a Facebook page run by The Beanstalk Functions Group, an alleged event planner in South Africa. These monetized stories often feature AI-generated images of him. Despite reports to Facebook Support, the page persists.
