Rachel Corp has resigned as CEO of ITN shortly after the broadcaster faced a prominent employment tribunal involving Dan Walker. Ian Rumsey, ITN’s current chief content officer, steps in as her replacement.

Corp’s Departure Statement

After more than 30 years with ITN, Corp announced her decision in a statement: “After a great deal of reflection, I have decided that the time is right for me to step down as CEO and pursue new opportunities. ITN has been a huge part of my life and career for more than three decades, and it has been a privilege to work alongside so many talented colleagues. I am incredibly proud to have led ITN during such a critical period for public service journalism and trusted content in a rapidly changing industry. Ian knows and cares deeply about ITN, and I cannot think of a better person to lead the organisation forward. I am excited for what comes next, and I wish Ian and everyone at ITN every success for the future.”

Connection to Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije’s Claims

The resignation follows fallout from legal action initiated by former Channel 5 News presenter Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije, 47, who co-hosted programs with ex-BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker from 2022 to 2023. Vanderpuije alleged racism, sexism, bullying, unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment, and breach of contract. Legal documents described a “sham redundancy” after she raised concerns about a toxic workplace culture in the Channel 5 newsroom, including accusations of misogyny.

The employment tribunal scheduled for the case concluded with a last-minute settlement described as a mutual agreement last month. Walker firmly denied any wrongdoing and prepared over 50 character witness statements from television figures, journalists, and sports stars in his defense.

Senior Figures’ Concerns

Sources close to ITN reveal that senior leaders felt uneasy about the intense public scrutiny on the matter. One insider noted that executives grew uncomfortable with the negative attention drawn to an organization known for its reputation and integrity. The source added that, although Corp did not directly trigger the events, someone needed to account for the outcome.

ITN and Rachel Corp have not issued public comments on the circumstances of her departure.
