Journalist’s Bold Move Goes Viral
An Argentine journalist has captured widespread attention after stepping away from a live television broadcast to request a photograph with global superstar Shakira. The incident occurred just hours before the opening match of the World Cup, at Estadio Mexico City.
Shakira’s World Cup Performance
Shakira was present at the stadium to perform her latest World Cup anthem, titled ‘Dai Dai [Let’s Go],’ alongside Nigerian rapper Burna Boy. As she was making her way near the field, her presence was noticed by journalist Marcelo Benedetto, who was in the midst of his live reporting.
On-Air Interruption
During his on-air segment, Benedetto was observed speaking to the camera before he set down his microphone and began to walk away. His cameraman, recognizing the renowned singer, shifted focus to Shakira, following her as she moved through the lower seating area.
A Moment with the Star
Shakira eventually approached Benedetto, who then asked for a photograph. The singer readily agreed, posing with pursed lips and a peace sign while Benedetto beamed for the camera.
Online Reaction and Past Encounters
Video footage of the event quickly circulated online, accompanied by a caption in Spanish that highlighted Benedetto’s decision, stating, ‘The great Marcelo Benedetto leaving the live broadcast to go ask Shakira for a photo. Priorities, always.’ Many viewers expressed understanding, with one comment noting, ‘Haha, he knows that kind of opportunity only comes once in a lifetime.’ Another user added, ‘I don’t judge him because we all would have done the same.’
This is not the first instance of Benedetto seeking out celebrity encounters at major sporting events. In the comments section of the viral video, a user shared a photograph of Benedetto with singer Dua Lipa at the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final held in Kyiv.
