Recycling Plant Fire Declared Major Incident

A significant fire erupted at a recycling plant last night, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Over 450 tonnes of cardboard were consumed by flames on Everite Road in Widnes, Cheshire, amid soaring temperatures. Dramatic aerial footage captured the intensity of the blaze, showing large sections of the recycling center engulfed in fire.

Emergency Services Respond to Major Incident

By 5:30 PM, concerns were raised about the structural integrity of the building, with fire officials warning it was at risk of collapse. Local residents and businesses were advised to secure their premises by closing windows and doors. The incident escalated to a major incident declaration at 6 PM due to the sheer scale of the inferno.

Twenty fire engines were dispatched from Cheshire, supported by crews from Lancashire and Greater Manchester. Police cordoned off surrounding roads, urging motorists to avoid the area. Authorities also implored the public not to gather at the scene, emphasizing that such congregations could impede the ongoing emergency operations.

Fire Brought Under Control, No Injuries Reported

Overnight, the number of fire engines was gradually reduced as the fire was brought under control, according to a spokesperson for the fire service. Fortunately, there are no reports of any injuries resulting from the incident.

Superintendent Sam Billington of Cheshire Police commented on the situation, stating, “A large number of officers are in attendance at the scene to manage road closures and provide reassurance to the community.” He added, “While our colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service tackle the fire, we would urge residents in the nearby area to follow their advice and stay indoors with their windows and doors closed at this time. I would also ask people not to congregate at the scene as it could hamper our response to this incident.”
