Aldi Expands UK Footprint with 16 New Store Openings

Aldi has revealed a comprehensive list of 16 new store locations set to launch across the United Kingdom in the coming months. This significant expansion underscores the supermarket chain’s ongoing commitment to increasing its presence nationwide.

The new branches will be established in various regions, including Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common and Sutton Coldfield within the West Midlands. Additional stores are also slated for opening in Wales, Kent, Essex, and North Yorkshire.

This latest wave of openings is a key component of Aldi’s strategic objective to operate 1,500 stores across the UK. The company aims to make its award-winning products, known for their quality and competitive pricing, accessible to a wider customer base.

The announcement follows the recent inauguration of Aldi’s store in Salford Quays and is part of a substantial £370 million investment earmarked for new store development throughout 2026.

Investment in Growth and Colleagues

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, emphasized the company’s dedication to accessibility. “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK,” Neale stated.

He further elaborated on the financial commitment: “Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”

Earlier this year, Aldi also implemented an increase in pay rates for its store staff, a move supported by a £42 million investment in colleague remuneration during 2026. Currently, Store Assistant pay begins at £13.50 per hour nationally, with rates rising to £14.47 based on tenure. Colleagues working within the M25 corridor receive a starting hourly wage of £14.88, increasing to £15.20 with service.
