Stars Shine at Tony Awards as Plaza and Abbott Make Red Carpet Debut
New York City was abuzz with theatrical excitement as the 79th Annual Tony Awards took place at the iconic Radio City Music Hall. Among the glittering attendees, actors Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott made a significant red carpet debut as a couple, drawing considerable attention.
Plaza, 41, known for her roles in ‘Parks and Recreation’ and ‘The White Lotus,’ was visibly pregnant, proudly cradling her baby bump. She attended the event to support Abbott, 40, who is nominated for best featured actor in a play for his portrayal of Biff Loman in the production of Arthur Miller’s ‘Death Of A Salesman.’
This marks the first time the couple has appeared together on a red carpet since news of Plaza’s pregnancy broke in April. The child, whose gender has not been disclosed, is expected in the fall.
Fashion on the Red Carpet
Plaza looked elegant in a striking black spaghetti-strap dress featuring bold pinstripes. The floor-length gown was accented with contrasting white triangular detailing at the slim straps. She completed her look with open-toe shoes and kept her accessories minimal, letting her dark hair flow freely.
Abbott complemented Plaza’s style with a sophisticated black velvet tuxedo. His trousers were slightly cropped, showcasing his black boots. A slim black necktie and a tasteful white pocket square added to his dapper ensemble.
A Shared History
The couple’s connection extends beyond their recent public appearance. Plaza and Abbott previously starred on Broadway together, a collaboration that reportedly led to their romance. Their relationship, which had not been publicly known prior to the pregnancy announcement, first blossomed when they worked together on the 2019 independent film ‘Black Bear.’ In the psychological drama, both actors took on dual roles as actors and directors filming in an isolated setting.
Their professional collaboration continued in 2023 with an Off-Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley’s play ‘Danny And The Deep Blue Sea,’ which concluded its run in January 2024.
Before the pregnancy news surfaced, Plaza and Abbott were last seen together on February 14, attending Khaite’s Fall/Winter 2026 show during New York Fashion Week.
