Authorities have initiated an urgent search following a serious sexual assault on an 11-year-old girl. The incident occurred yesterday evening in a wooded area adjacent to the Clarks Way playground, located in the Odd Down district of Bath.
Investigation Underway After Daylight Attack
The attack reportedly took place around 5 p.m. in the vicinity of the playground. Police are actively seeking a white male suspect, described as being between 30 and 40 years old, with a distinctive tattoo on his neck. At the time of the incident, the individual was reportedly wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and a cap.
Law enforcement is appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. Officers are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from the area and conducting house-to-house inquiries to identify the perpetrator.
Support for Victim and Family
The victim and her family are receiving support from specially trained officers. The rape and serious sexual offences team, operating under the designation Operation Bluestone, is collaborating with local detectives to apprehend the offender.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Inspector Hannah Marsh of Avon and Somerset Police emphasized the gravity of the situation. “This is an incredibly serious incident, and significant resources are in place to support our investigation,” she stated. “We are prioritizing efforts to identify the offender.”
Detective Inspector Marsh urged anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the assault, or anyone matching the suspect’s description, to come forward. “Support will be in place for the victim for as long as it is needed, and we will keep her and her family updated as our investigation progresses,” she added.
Enhanced neighborhood patrols have been deployed in the affected area and are expected to continue in the coming days.
