A blogger, known for his role in exposing misconduct by a high-ranking police official, has been found dead in a hotel room. The discovery occurred just weeks before he was scheduled to be sentenced for child sex offenses. Simon Tilley, 46, was reportedly found deceased on Friday, July 3, at the Hampton by Hilton hotel in Corby, after failing to check out as scheduled.
Blogger’s Role in Exposing Police Misconduct
Tilley gained prominence for his online commentary and investigations into Northamptonshire Police. His blogs were instrumental in bringing to light allegations against former Chief Constable Nick Adderley. Adderley had falsely claimed military service in the Falklands and made other unsubstantiated assertions on his curriculum vitae. These revelations led to Adderley’s dismissal in 2024, following a disciplinary panel’s conclusion that he had engaged in “sustained, brazen dishonesty.” Subsequently, Adderley faced charges of fraud and misconduct in public office related to these alleged false claims.
Tilley’s Conviction for Sex Offenses and Stalking
In parallel with his activities as a blogger, Tilley was convicted of serious offenses. During his trial in May, the court heard evidence that he had sent explicit messages and pornographic videos to an undercover Northamptonshire Police detective. Tilley mistakenly believed the detective to be a 13-year-old boy. He was found guilty of two child sex offenses early last month.
In addition to the sex offenses, Tilley was also convicted of stalking the wife of the detective who investigated his case. This detective’s wife is also a police officer. Jurors were told that Tilley had posted the officer’s wedding day picture and marriage certificate online, accompanied by false accusations of corruption. He also allegedly referred to the lead detective as “PC Pervert” online and sent a letter that mentioned knowing the detective’s home address and current partner, which prosecutors characterized as “quite unnecessarily” included.
Stafford Crown Court heard that the stalking campaign was intended to “derail the criminal proceedings.” Evidence suggested Tilley had obtained the marriage certificates of at least ten police officers. He was ultimately found guilty of two child sex offenses, perverting the course of justice, and one count of stalking. He was acquitted of a second stalking charge.
