Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. with the 15th overall pick in the NFL Draft, marking a significant moment for the highly touted prospect two years after he was identified as the driver in a fatal car crash.
Draft Selection Amid Controversy
Bain, who played at Miami, avoided a potential drop in the draft process. The Buccaneers showed no hesitation in choosing him early in the first round, prioritizing his on-field talent despite the past incident.
Details of the 2024 Crash
The accident occurred at the end of Bain’s freshman season. Early one morning on Interstate 95, his vehicle collided with another car before striking concrete barriers on both sides of the roadway.
Two Miami teammates rode as passengers, along with 22-year-old Destiny Betts. Betts tragically passed away after three months in a coma.
