Man Charged in Fatal Bridge Altercation Involving Bus Driver
A fatal incident occurred on Battersea Bridge, one of London’s busiest thoroughfares, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old bus driver. The driver, Sergei Krajev, sustained fatal brain injuries following an altercation on the pavement while his bus was stationary shortly after midnight on May 18.
Court Proceedings and Accusation
Gary Jones, a 32-year-old man from Stoke Newington, north London, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with Mr. Krajev’s death. Jones has denied the charge at Kingston Crown Court.
The court heard that Mr. Krajev was seen grappling with a man on the bridge. Emergency services were called to the scene, with police officers administering first aid. Mr. Krajev was subsequently transported to a hospital via London’s Air Ambulance but succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Jones, who is a father of two, was initially arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm. The charge was elevated to manslaughter after Mr. Krajev’s passing.
Bail Conditions and Trial Date
During a court appearance, Judge Mark Bryant-Heron granted Jones bail. The conditions include an electronic curfew and mandatory reporting to Stoke Newington police station three times a week, between 12 noon and 2 pm.
A two-week trial has been scheduled for April 12 of the following year.
