She first appeared as a guest star in 1993, playing Janice Hutchins, the mother of a child admitted to the Emergency Department (ED). Hill recounted a challenging filming experience with her on-screen son, who was also her real-life child at the time. “He didn’t like me, and so it made filming it extremely difficult. He didn’t want me to look at him, or even touch him, or go near him,” she explained. This memorable guest appearance was apparently recognized years later by Derek Thompson, who played Charlie Fairhead from the show’s inception until his departure in March 2024. Thompson, who will feature in the anniversary specials, remembered Hill when she joined as a regular cast member. “When I joined again, he might have been kidding me, but he said he remembered me, which is pretty good going considering the amount of actors that have come through Casualty as guest artists. But he did remember, so that’s nice,” Hill smiled.
