Jackson Set for Stamford Bridge Return
Chelsea is preparing to welcome striker Nicolas Jackson back to the club this summer, with current plans indicating a desire to give the forward an opportunity to impress new head coach Xabi Alonso. Sources within the club suggest that Jackson, 24, is still held in high regard internally.
It has been understood that Jackson’s loan spell at Bayern Munich last season was largely influenced by a strained relationship with former head coach Enzo Maresca. With Maresca’s departure from Chelsea, the door has opened for Jackson to potentially remain at Stamford Bridge and feature under Alonso.
Transfer Interest and Future Prospects
While the intention is for Jackson to stay, his future is not definitively settled. Several clubs, both domestically within the Premier League and internationally, have already expressed interest in the Senegal international. A sale remains a possibility if an exceptionally strong offer materializes, though the immediate strategy is to allow Jackson to compete for a place under Alonso, who officially takes charge on July 1.
Alonso will initially observe Jackson from a distance, as the striker is set to represent Senegal in the World Cup, commencing June 11.
Competition and Player Versatility
Jackson endured a challenging period under former manager Enzo Maresca, who has since left the club. Reports indicate Jackson is open to staying at Chelsea, provided he receives adequate playing time. The current Chelsea roster includes strikers Nicolas Jackson, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Emmanuel Emegha. This number is considered excessive, particularly with the team not participating in European competitions next season, limiting opportunities for rotation.
The final decision regarding Jackson and other striking options will be a collaborative effort between Alonso and Chelsea’s sporting leadership. Jackson’s ability to also operate effectively on the wing offers him an advantage over a more traditional center-forward like Liam Delap.
Financials and Contractual Status
During his loan spell with Bayern Munich, Jackson netted 11 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions last season. The German club paid a substantial fee of approximately £14.3 million for his temporary move and had the option to purchase him permanently for an additional £56.2 million. Chelsea originally acquired Jackson from Villarreal in 2023 for a reported £32 million. He is currently under contract with the London club until 2033.
