Full House star Dave Coulier, 66, shares the harsh side effects of his cancer treatments, including a 45-pound weight loss and changes to his vocal cords.
Recent Health Update
In a recent Instagram video, Coulier addresses fan concerns about his appearance and voice. He explains that extensive radiation for throat carcinoma caused these changes. ‘I haven’t posted in quite a while, and the last time I did, some of you said that I look differently and I sound differently, and I do,’ Coulier states. ‘What you’re seeing is the side effects of extensive radiation that I went through for carcinoma in my throat.’
He reveals that he has not eaten solid food in months, leading to the significant weight loss. ‘That’s what you’re seeing, and it’s affected my ability to speak,’ he adds. Coulier notes that some fans correctly observed his altered voice and confirms his hair is growing back.
Cancer Journey Timeline
Coulier received a stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in late 2024 and declared himself cancer-free the following March. In late 2025, doctors diagnosed him separately with HPV-related oropharyngeal tongue cancer. By February this year, he announced remission from both conditions, though he admits cancer feels like it lingers ‘in the rearview mirror.’
Positive Prognosis and Lifestyle Shifts
Following a recent doctor’s visit, Coulier reports a good prognosis for both the throat carcinoma and lymphoma. ‘We’re very pleased with all of that,’ he says.
On The Kelly Clarkson Show last month, Coulier connects his past ‘toxic’ lifestyle to the diagnoses. ‘I wanted to know, “Why did my lymphatic system crash?” And I realized as soon as I went down the rabbit hole, everything in my life was toxic,’ he shares. He lists items like toothpaste, shampoo, and skin cream, then describes starting with toothpaste replacement: ‘I put that in my mouth every day, I’m gonna start there.’
Coulier has maintained sobriety since January 2020 amid his alcohol use disorder recovery.
