St George-Illawarra Dragons fans face a dismal record of nine games without a win, a points differential of -185, and just two points on the board. The club organizes a member forum where supporters can confront the leadership directly amid the team’s struggles.
Forum Quickly Reaches Capacity
Management emailed members last Friday at 1:04 p.m., inviting them to hear from CEO Tim Watsford, COO Ben Creagh, and head coach Dean Young. Demand surged, prompting a second email just 39 minutes later announcing full capacity.
Strict Rules: No Children or Recordings
The invitation specifies the event suits adults only, with no children permitted and no online streaming available. Watsford confirms it as an “adult event” and enforces a no-recording policy to maintain an in-house atmosphere.
“We want to keep it very much in-house,” Watsford states. “That’s the way we want to do it from an exclusivity perspective. I do like to speak transparently and openly, and there is trust there.”
Leadership Braces for Tough Questions
Watsford anticipates a heated exchange, acknowledging fan passion after prolonged poor results. “Our fans are up and about and rightly so,” he says. “We might get a few curly ones, absolutely, but we wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t front up.”
He expects scrutiny on recruitment and emphasizes the need for change. “Fans want answers, they want to win, and I can’t argue with that,” Watsford adds. “We’re not where we need to be, and we know that.”
The team’s losing streak spans 13 matches. Coach Young recently mandates eight-hour player workdays to reshape club culture, yet recent games yield no improvement, conceding 106 points across losses to the Newcastle Knights and Sydney Roosters.
