Easter bank holiday plans face disruption as a vast rain front sweeps across the UK, from northern Scotland to England’s south coast. Weather maps forecast heavy downpours affecting 20 cities over the weekend.

Areas Facing the Worst Weather

Northern England cities brace for the heaviest rain on April 4 and 5, including Carlisle, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Sunderland, York, and Derby.

The Midlands and southern regions also expect drenchings in Birmingham, Stoke, Coventry, Gloucester, Bristol, and Bournemouth.

In Wales, Swansea faces the most showers, while Cardiff may dodge the worst. Scotland sees wet conditions in Perth, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Dundee, with Edinburgh potentially getting lighter rain.

Northern Ireland offers some relief, as Belfast anticipates clear skies for Easter festivities.

Met Office Outlook

The Met Office warns of unsettled conditions over the Easter holiday weekend, with strong winds and heavy rain likely, especially in the west and north.

“It is increasingly likely that unsettled conditions will affect the UK over the Easter Holiday weekend, with the potential for strong winds and heavy rain at times. The wettest and windiest weather is more likely towards the west and north of the country. Beyond Easter, a broad northwest-southeast split is most likely… northern and western parts are more likely to remain rather unsettled overall, with further spells of wind and rain, and areas further southeast should see the best of the drier, clearer interludes. Temperatures probably fairly close to average overall, but occasional warmer spells are possible in the south.”

Detailed Five-Day Forecast

Today: Mostly cloudy mornings with hill fog and patchy rain give way to brighter skies and warm sunshine in the east. Showers persist, with mild temperatures but windy conditions in the north.

Tonight: Clear spells in the east, fog patches possible. Patchy drizzle in the west, persistent rain in the northwest amid windy weather.

Wednesday: Rain advances southeast through Scotland and Northern Ireland with brisk winds. Brighter northwest later. England and Wales stay mostly dry and cloudy with mild bright spells.

Thursday to Saturday: Rain clears southeast on Thursday, leading to mostly fine weather. Further northwest rain arrives later. Good Friday and Saturday turn unsettled with wet, windy spells across the UK.
