A former Bay Space metropolis councilmember was sentenced to 18 years in jail Friday for molesting an underage member of the family greater than 20 years in the past, prosecutors stated.

Omar Torres, who served on the San Jose Metropolis Council councilmember from 2023 till he was charged in 2024, pleaded no contest in April to fees of forcible sodomy, forcible oral copulation and molestation of a kid beneath 14, the Santa Clara district lawyer’s workplace stated in a press release.

He assaulted the kid for years starting within the late Nineties, solely stopping as a result of he was afraid he’d get caught, in keeping with prosecutors.

Torres, 43, was already beneath investigation for alleged sexual abuse of a minor when the member of the family got here ahead.
