Australian sprinter Gout Gout earns spots in the 200m and 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, this August.
Skipping Commonwealth Games for Global Focus
The 18-year-old passes on the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, wrapping up just before the U20 event in the United States, to sharpen his preparation.
“I’m really excited to get out there at World Athletics Under 20s in Eugene, Oregon,” Gout stated. “I know it’s a great stadium and place to run fast, and I feel confident I’ll be ready to step up and make Australia proud. I’ll be competing in the 200m but I’m also excited to join in the 4x400m on the last day.”
Proven Record Holder with Medal Pedigree
Gout secured silver in the 200m at the 2024 U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, clocking 20.60 seconds behind Bayanda Walaza. Walaza also claimed the 100m title there and earned Olympic silver in Paris as part of South Africa’s 4x100m relay.
Gout now holds Australia’s national record in the 200m, shattering his own mark with a 19.67-second run at last month’s national championships. He also triumphed in the 100m at the Australian junior championships but focuses solely on the 200m and relay at the worlds.
