Princess of Wales Wears Meaningful Blue Ensemble During Hospital Visit
Following a recent engagement at the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK with King Charles, the Princess of Wales made another significant visit to The Christie in Manchester. This prominent cancer centre, established in 1890 and integrated into the NHS in 1948, stands as Europe’s largest, serving over 60,000 patients annually.
During her visit, the Princess observed a patient marking the end of their treatment by ringing a bell. Her tour also included a stop at an art therapy room and a serene wellbeing garden, concluding on the Teenage and Young Adult Ward. Demonstrating her support for the NHS, which utilizes a blue and white color scheme, the Princess opted to re-wear a favored blue coat dress by Eponine.
Fashion Details and Symbolism
The Eponine coat dress featured padded shoulders, a V-neckline, a buttoned waist, and a midi skirt. The Princess complemented the outfit with understated accessories, including her sapphire engagement ring, bee earrings, and nude Gianvito Rossi heels. Her signature brunette hair was styled in elegant Hollywood curls.
According to royal fashion expert and style coach Shauna Colaci, the choice of blue for the Princess’s attire carries specific connotations. “In colour psychology, blue symbolises trust, loyalty, and calm authority. It’s the colour of diplomacy – quietly powerful, universally flattering, and emotionally steadying,” Colaci explained.
Sustainable Style Choices
The Princess showcased her commitment to sustainable fashion by re-wearing a piece from her wardrobe, originally acquired in 2021. This particular coat, from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, was first seen during the United Nations COP26 climate change summit. Stylist Susie Hasler noted the royal’s knack for refreshing outfits with different accessories. “When she chooses something custom-made, it’s often in a neutral shade – usually something like blue or navy – which makes it much easier to re-wear in different ways over time. These types of pieces are always created with longevity in mind,” Hasler stated.
Personal Connection to Cancer Care
The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024, following abdominal surgery. She subsequently underwent chemotherapy, completing treatment by September of that year. At the time of her announcement, she shared that she was “cancer-free,” and later, in January 2025, she indicated she was in remission.
During a prior visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she received treatment, the Princess offered empathy to fellow cancer patients, drawing from her own recent experiences. Speaking with a woman undergoing chemotherapy, she remarked, “It’s really tough,” and encouraged a positive outlook. In a subsequent statement, she expressed profound gratitude: “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
