Buckingham Palace confirms its readiness to assist Thames Valley Police in evaluating allegations against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who denies any misconduct.
Palace Statement Signals King’s Profound Concern
King Charles demonstrates unprecedented resolve regarding his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor amid fresh scrutiny tied to Jeffrey Epstein. The Palace statement highlights the monarch’s “profound concern” over emerging claims about Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.
“The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct,” the Palace declares. “While the specific claims in question are for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police we stand ready to support them as you would expect. Their Majesties’ thoughts and sympathies have been, and remain with, the victims of any and all forms of abuse.”
Complaint Sparks Police Review
Anti-monarchist group Republic files a report with Thames Valley Police, alleging misconduct in public office and breach of official secrets during Mountbatten-Windsor’s tenure as a trade envoy. The complaint stems from recently released Epstein files, including emails that appear to show Mountbatten-Windsor sharing sensitive information with the convicted sex offender.
Thames Valley Police, overseeing the Windsor area, acknowledges receipt and assesses grounds for a full investigation. Mountbatten-Windsor maintains he committed no wrongdoing in his Epstein associations.
Last October, King Charles strips his brother of royal titles and honors, marking a significant family rift.
Royal Commentators Weigh In
Royal Editor Rebecca English describes the Palace’s stance as “extraordinary and unprecedented,” calling it “overdue.” She notes, “I do think the Palace is in a very, very difficult situation but I think the King went as far as he could in expressing his concern and probably his personal outrage about the allegations his brother is facing.”
Diary Editor Richard Eden urges stronger measures, stating, “It’s not enough just to say, ‘Oh I’m a bit concerned about this’, you know you’re in charge, do something. You’re in charge, you’re the king.”
Public Backlash During Royal Visits
The King faces direct challenges over the issue. In Clitheroe, a man shouts, “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” amid crowd boos. This follows similar heckling in Essex days earlier, questioning ties to the convicted pedophile.
