Jockey Kristy Bennett Remains Unconscious Following Horrific Fall

The family of Australian jockey Kristy Bennett has shared a concerning update on her condition, revealing that she remains unconscious and faces a potentially lengthy recovery period of several years after sustaining serious injuries in a racing incident. The 29-year-old jockey suffered a brain bleed during trials on the Gold Coast approximately two weeks ago.

The incident required the attendance of an intensive care ambulance. Bennett has since undergone surgery and is receiving medical attention at Southport University Hospital. A recent statement, released through the Australian Jockeys Association, provided insight into her ongoing recovery.

Family Issues Heartbreaking Update on Bennett’s Condition

“On behalf of Bella and Irene Bennett, we have an update on Kristy Bennett’s condition from her specialists,” the statement read. “Kristy remains unconscious after suffering traumatic brain injuries and vertebrae fractures. Her rehabilitation could take years to complete.”

The family indicated that there will be no further updates for some time as medical professionals focus on providing Bennett with the best possible care. “On behalf of our family and Kristy, we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone in Queensland and Western Australia for their unwavering love,” they added.

Widespread Support for Injured Jockey

The racing community and fans have expressed their solidarity and sent well wishes to Bennett and her family. Social media has been flooded with messages of support. “So sad, love and strength to the Bennetts xo,” one individual commented. Another shared, “Horrendous injuries – I can only offer my prayers and hope.” A third message read, “That’s sad news, wishing her all the best xxx.”

Bennett, who recently relocated from Western Australia to Queensland, had been riding trackwork for prominent trainer Tony Gollan. She made her debut in Queensland in May, with her first race taking place in the outback town of Emerald. Throughout her career, Bennett has achieved 187 wins from 2,963 starts, with an additional 652 placings. She began her professional jockey career in 2018, securing her first victory with the horse Chinetti, trained by Paul Jordan.
