Kyle Sandilands, the 54-year-old radio host of The Kyle and Jackie O show on KIIS FM, reportedly plans to acquire the entire Australian Radio Network (ARN) if his employment ends abruptly.
Suspension Deadline Approaches
Sandilands faces a critical deadline on Tuesday, following a two-week suspension issued by ARN. The network cited his behavior during a February 20 broadcast as serious misconduct breaching his service agreement with Quasar Media. He must remedy the issue by 5:30 p.m., or risk termination.
Craig Bruce, former program director at 2DayFM during Sandilands’ time there, shared insights from a recent Australian Idol taping. Posting on his Game Changers Radio Instagram page, Bruce revealed Sandilands’ bold statement to attendees.
‘Update. Kyle Sandilands will be back on the air on Wednesday, if he’s not sacked on Tuesday. And he reckons he’s going to get sacked on Tuesday,’ Bruce stated. ‘This is intel. I got a DM last night from a listener who was at the Idol auditions… If he’s sacked on Tuesday, he’s going to buy the network.’
Bruce emphasized the uncertainty: ‘He’s either going to be on the radio on Wednesday… or he is sacked on Tuesday, that’s according to Kyle Sandilands himself. The plot thickens.’
Australian Idol Live Broadcast Adds Tension
The controversy coincides with Australian Idol’s live finals on Channel Seven, where Sandilands judges alongside Marcia Hines and Amy Shark. Tuesday’s episode airs shortly after his suspension deadline, raising concerns among ARN executives about potential on-air comments.
Insiders indicate executives worry Sandilands might address the saga live. One radio source noted: ‘It’s his job to push the limits as far as he can go and for the censors to determine what is okay. If it comes out of the speakers, then the censors have signed off on it and it has management approval.’
Prior pre-recorded episodes featured Jessica Mauboy as a fill-in judge. The show recently gained intrigue from its network’s merger with ARN rival Southern Cross Austereo.
Emotional On-Air Revelation
During Monday’s episode, Sandilands reflected emotionally after contestant Charlie Moon’s performance of ‘With a Little Help from My Friends.’
‘Great performance, great song choice, beautiful delivery and a great message, we all need to get by with a little help from our friends,’ he said. ‘This week has been tough for me. I had a falling out with a very close friend.’
The remark appears to reference his former co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, amid ongoing uncertainty at KIIS FM post her departure.
