LIV Golf plans to delay its inaugural New Orleans tournament, originally slated for late June at City Park’s Bayou Oaks, until the autumn season.
Upcoming Announcement and Schedule Gap
Officials expect LIV Golf and the Louisiana Economic Development agency to confirm the change soon. The postponement creates a three-month U.S. tournament hiatus, spanning from the May 7-10 event at Trump National in northern Virginia to the August 6-9 competition at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey.
Recent CEO Assurance
This update follows LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil’s recent statement to staff and players two weeks ago. O’Neil affirmed the season would continue “uninterrupted and at full throttle,” countering rumors that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund might withdraw support after the league’s expenditures exceeded $5 billion since 2022.
Reasons for the Delay
Organizers aim to avoid extreme summer temperatures, ensure the course reaches championship condition, and minimize conflicts with World Cup attendance and viewership. New Orleans hosts no World Cup matches.
Louisiana’s Financial Commitment
Louisiana officials pledged $5 million to LIV Golf last August, plus $2.2 million for Bayou Oaks improvements. The state anticipates repayment of $1 million already advanced for the event.
