Liverpool supporters plan a striking yellow card demonstration during their match against Crystal Palace to challenge the decision to raise general admission ticket prices at Anfield over the next three seasons.
Reasons Behind the Fan Protest
The action targets Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) pricing strategy, which fans view as unacceptable amid the cost-of-living crisis. Supporters aim to deliver a clear warning to owners FSG and John W. Henry that these financial moves threaten the club’s connection with its local fanbase.
Details of the Yellow Card Action
Fan groups have distributed around 75,000 yellow cards near the stadium before kick-off. Fans will raise them in unison during the 13th minute of the game, symbolizing the projected 13 percent total price increase over the three-year period.
The protest unites key organizations: Spirit of Shankly, Spion Kop 1906, Kop Outs, cultuRED, and the LFC Women’s Supporters Club.
Match Timing and Logistics
The demonstration occurs at Liverpool’s 3 p.m. kick-off against Crystal Palace on Saturday, with cards held high around 3:13 p.m.
Previous Fan Actions
This follows earlier efforts, such as a boycott of stadium concourse purchases during the Champions League clash with PSG. Campaign vans have also appeared at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre and other city spots.
Fans’ Key Demands
Supporters oppose committing to price hikes for three years, arguing it erodes club accountability and ignores inflation’s toll on local families. They stress that Liverpool’s future and spirit hinge on affordable tickets for the community, not revenue boosts from sales.
Backing from Club Icon
Legendary figure Jamie Carragher endorses the campaign, calling the increases “absolute nonsense.” He stated: “But I don’t understand the ticket price thing in terms of how much they are bringing in from sponsorship and the revenue from the Premier League and when you look at wage bills, Liverpool’s is right up there with the best. And this idea that they need to up ticket prices to pay for these players, it’s absolute nonsense.”
