A 23-year-old man has tragically died from injuries sustained in a suspected dog attack on a distinctive property in Sydney’s southwest. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at the sprawling estate known as ‘Saturn’s Rings’ in Eschol Park shortly before midday on Wednesday. The property, located on Badgully Road, is a 40-hectare site notable for its unique architecture and history as the former headquarters of a spiritual movement.

Discovery of the Victim

Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the young man deceased in a paddock near the road. He had sustained severe injuries, which initial investigations suggest may have been caused by an animal or animals. Authorities have stated that the victim is not believed to have been a resident or an employee of the property.

Investigation into the Dogs

Reports indicate that up to eight dogs were present on the property at the time of the incident, including a German Shepherd. Concerns have been raised regarding the animals’ status, with allegations that they were unregistered and lacked microchips. In a separate but related incident on the same day, another individual was reportedly bitten by a dog on the property. This occurred while council inspectors were present, reportedly finalizing plans to safely secure the animals.

Council Intervention

Following the reported biting incident and the discovery of the deceased man, Campbelltown Council inspectors attended the property. They were equipped with tranquilizer darts and successfully removed the dogs from the premises. Three utility vehicles, with dogs secured in cages, were subsequently seen departing the gated estate. A spokesperson for Campbelltown Council confirmed their cooperation with the ongoing police investigation. “Council is supporting police inquiries and will continue to assist as required, in accordance with its legislative responsibilities, including determining the registration and ownership status of the dogs,” the spokesperson stated.

The Unique ‘Saturn’s Rings’ Property

The property itself is one of Sydney’s most unusual landmarks. Originally designed and constructed by Polish immigrant Stefan Dzwonnik, it was intended to serve a dual purpose: as his family residence and as the central hub for his spiritual organization, the ‘Universal Power World Society’. Archival records detail Dzwonnik’s vision for the estate to become a global center for a movement focused on improving life on Earth.

Architectural Inspiration

The distinctive architectural style of the mansion, which lends it the nickname ‘Saturn’s Rings’, was directly inspired by the planet Saturn’s prominent rings. The design features three concentric units. According to historical accounts, the uppermost level was designated for the family’s living quarters, while the two lower levels were planned for the society’s activities. This ambitious project, however, remained incomplete at the time of Stefan Dzwonnik’s passing in 2018. The property continues to be family-owned.

Ongoing Police Inquiry

The NSW Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 23-year-old man’s death. The focus remains on determining the exact cause of his fatal injuries and the role, if any, the dogs played. The incident has cast a somber light on the property’s unique history and its current situation, prompting a thorough examination of the events that led to this tragic outcome.

Conclusion

The death of the young man at the ‘Saturn’s Rings’ property is a deeply concerning event that has prompted a significant police and council response. Investigations are underway to clarify the sequence of events, the condition and ownership of the dogs involved, and the precise cause of the victim’s injuries. The unique nature of the property adds a layer of intrigue to an already tragic situation, underscoring the need for a comprehensive and sensitive inquiry.
