Mick Jagger’s fiancée, ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 38, shares a harrowing account of being physically attacked outside a private members’ club in Mayfair. She describes feeling ‘shaken and heartbroken’ following the incident involving two assailants who grabbed her from behind.
The Attack Unfolds
Hamrick posted on Instagram Wednesday morning detailing the ordeal at Annabel’s in Berkeley Square. ‘This is incredibly hard to share, but I was physically attacked at Annabels Mayfair tonight,’ she wrote. ‘I’m so thankful to my friends for protecting me. Two people grabbed me from behind and thank god for good people who stepped in to help me. I’m shaken, sad and heartbroken that people can treat each other this way.’
Authorities confirm the attack occurred outside the exclusive venue. Hamrick has been in a relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, 82, since 2014. The couple shares a young son, Devereux.
London’s Escalating Crime Wave
The mugging coincides with a surge in brazen daytime heists targeting luxury stores across London. Organized gangs smash windows with sledgehammers, ram vehicles through doors, and flee on motorbikes with high-value items like watches, handbags, and jewelry.
Recent incidents include hammer-wielding thieves ransacking Gregory & Co, a family-run jeweler in Richmond, southwest London. Witnesses describe robbers appearing suddenly, smashing displays, and escaping with valuables while staff intervened.
Similar raids hit Bucherer Rolex Boutique at One Hyde Park, where motorbikes propped open doors as thieves peeled away glass and filled bags with luxury goods. Sultan Jewellery in Shepherd’s Bush suffered a sledgehammer attack, damaging shutters and scattering glass. Yves St Laurent on Bond Street lost up to £30,000 in handbags after an SUV rammed the window.
Mobile Phone Theft Epidemic
Concerns mount over a £50 million annual phone theft wave, with thieves on scooters snatching devices from pedestrians. Metropolitan Police data shows 66,528 phones stolen in London in the year to September 2024, including 22,253 in Westminster—85.4 incidents per 1,000 residents.
Among victims is Bridgerton actress Genevieve Chenneour, who fought off thief Zacariah Boulares, 18, at a Kensington cafe. Left concussed, she stated: ‘They didn’t expect me to stand up for myself – but I did.’ Boulares pleaded guilty to theft and assault. Chenneour added: ‘I was left with a concussion just before the Screen Actors Guild Awards and since then, I’ve felt constantly on edge. Even my dog was traumatised – now, if anyone touches me, he panics and tries to protect me. Getting a coffee shouldn’t be something you need your wits about you for.’
High-profile residents like Tom Cruise vacated a £35 million apartment at One Hyde Park, citing declining safety amid the crime surge.
