Monaco Grand Prix Halted Due to Track Failures
Formula One’s renowned Monaco Grand Prix experienced a dramatic interruption today, with a red flag halting proceedings due to significant track surface issues. Tarmac broke apart on the historic street circuit, forcing all remaining cars back to the pit lane with just 10 laps remaining in the race.
Race officials initiated the suspension to allow for an inspection and immediate repair of the affected section of the track. A heavy roller was deployed at the Rascasse corner, a well-known and demanding turn on the famously tight 2.07-mile course.
At the time of the stoppage, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli was leading the field. The red flag notification was displayed to drivers on their steering wheel screens and in team garages.
Driver Incidents Prompt Concern
Race director Rui Marquez and chairman of the stewards Garry Donnelly were observed overseeing the repair efforts. This particular section of the circuit had reportedly been relaid in preparation for this year’s event.
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc were among the drivers who crashed out at the compromised section of the track, highlighting the severity of the surface deterioration.
The race was suspended at 4:35 PM local time (3:35 PM BST). The decision on whether the Grand Prix will resume is pending the outcome of the track repairs and further assessments.
