The 34-year-old attacker, a key selection for Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti, has been sidelined from training due to a calf injury sustained in his right leg.
Injury Concern Ahead of Tournament Opener
Neymar was notably absent from the squad that secured a 2-1 victory over Egypt in their final warm-up match on Saturday. Brazil is set to kick off their World Cup journey against Morocco on Saturday night, with their Group C opponents also including Scotland and Haiti. Neymar’s availability for this crucial opening fixture remains uncertain.
Manager Provides Update on Neymar’s Condition
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Egypt game, Ancelotti addressed Neymar’s situation. “I think his situation is quite clear,” the manager stated. “He’s doing a great job on his own. After the weekend, he’ll have an MRI scan and then, if everything goes well, he can train with the squad next week.”
Team Performance Amidst Injury Worries
Neymar is part of a formidable Brazilian forward line, and the team demonstrated their attacking prowess in the friendly against Egypt, creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, it was 19-year-old winger Endrick who ultimately sealed the win with a late goal.
Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes had given Brazil an early lead in the seventh minute, but a defensive error by Marquinhos allowed Egypt’s Ziko to equalize just four minutes later. Vinicius Junior and Igor Thiago also missed chances to put Brazil back in front before Endrick, a second-half substitute, found the net with the team’s first significant attack after the break.

The match also saw another injury concern for Brazil, with full-back Wesley Franca forced off after 17 minutes due to a muscle strain. The 22-year-old, who has earned eight caps for the Selecao and was expected to be the first-choice right-back, was replaced by Danilo. Brazilian medical staff are currently evaluating his condition.
