Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team has determined that no charges are warranted against a Halifax Regional Police officer involved in a shooting last July.

Details of the Incident

On July 9, 2025, officers responded to a report of a man who had barricaded himself inside his home on Arlington Avenue in Halifax’s Fairmount area. Throughout the night, the man issued threats toward the police. In the morning, as officers attempted to establish contact, he discharged a flare gun in their direction.

When the man aimed what officers perceived as a firearm at them, one officer fired a shot, striking him. The Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates serious police-related incidents in Nova Scotia, concluded there were no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offense.

Injuries and Aftermath

The man sustained serious injuries but received hospital treatment that proved non-life-threatening. A woman acquainted with the man, who was also present in the house, received care for injuries that were similarly non-life-threatening.
