Ottawa’s professional women’s soccer team has introduced a new majority ownership group, signaling fresh momentum for the club.
Leadership Team
Nick Sakellariadis chairs the Arcadia MapleLeaf Soccer group. A Harvard graduate with degrees in law and business, he brings extensive experience from investment banking and over a decade owning the Dayton Dragons, the Cincinnati Reds’ minor league affiliate in Ohio. The Dragons maintained a sellout streak throughout much of the 21st century. Sakellariadis’s group sold the team to Diamond Baseball Holdings last year, and he continues as co-executive chair.
Michael Savit, a former Dragons co-owner, joins him alongside Ellen Shumway, who offers expertise in finance and consulting.
Commitment to Fans and Development
The ownership group pledges to develop Ottawa Rapid FC into a fan-focused, family-friendly community pillar. It aims to foster dynamic role models, bolster Ottawa’s influence in Canadian women’s soccer growth, and enhance pathways from youth to professional levels, according to the team’s announcement.
Investment and Continuity
Details on the investment amount remain undisclosed. Current owners retain their stakes and plan additional investments in the club.
Recent Performance and Upcoming Season
In the Northern Super League’s inaugural season, Ottawa Rapid reached the semifinals. DB Pridham, now with Canada’s national team, earned player of the year honors, while Jyllissa Harris claimed defender of the year.
The team kicks off its 2026 campaign in Halifax on April 25, followed by a home opener on May 2.
