The horror film Passenger emerges as a top contender for 2026’s scariest movie, with its trailer delivering jump scares that leave audiences screaming. Starring Jacob Scipio and Lou Llobell as a couple on a dream road trip, the story spirals into terror after they witness a deadly car crash. A demonic force known as the Passenger relentlessly pursues them, transforming vacation into nightmare. The film arrives in theaters on May 22.

Fans React with Shrieks on X

Social media erupts with praise for the preview’s intensity. One viewer shares, “Alright that first jump scare got me good.” Another describes, “Passenger has that suspense vibe that pulls you in immediately.”

A fan exclaims, “Don’t think a trailer has made me actually jump MULTIPLE times in a long time. Def going to see this!” Others emphasize eerie isolation: “This looks absolutely terrifying and proves to me why quiet American roads that have nothing but forest or desert for miles are the most terrifying places in the world.”

Viewers appreciate the trailer’s restraint: “Finally an actual horrifying movie. I love that this trailer isn’t telling me the entirety of this movie like a lot of these ‘horror’ movies in today’s society. I’m actually excited, like I’m actually upset I can’t predict what this movie is about, which is a very good thing.” One adds nostalgia: “This trailer totally took me back to the first time I got lost in a sci-fi flick at midnight with my friends, can’t wait to see where this ride goes!”

Trailer Breakdown

The teaser opens with stark statistics: “Last year, over 130 million people took road trips.” Footage shows a man exiting his car to relieve himself by a tree while his friend waits. A sudden horn honk draws him back, but his friend has vanished. Ominous text follows: “15,400 of them were never seen again.”

Tension peaks as a blood-soaked figure smashes through the windshield, gasping “Help me” before vanishing at blinding speed. The narrative then introduces Scipio and Llobell’s characters observing a horrific highway wreck, setting the stage for the Passenger’s deadly hunt.
