Shocking Footage Shows Sterling’s Lamborghini Swerving on M3
Dashcam footage has captured the moment former England footballer Raheem Sterling drove his £270,000 Lamborghini erratically across multiple lanes on the M3 motorway, moments before a collision. The video shows the ex-Liverpool and Manchester City forward making abrupt maneuvers, including pulling in front of another vehicle without signaling.
The footage, recorded on Thursday morning, depicts Sterling’s black Lamborghini initially merging into the inside lane before suddenly swerving across all three lanes at speed, narrowly avoiding the central reservation. A works van following behind was observed braking sharply due to Sterling’s driving.
Arrest and Collision Details Emerge
The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday. Hampshire Police confirmed they received reports of a Lamborghini colliding with barriers on the M3 southbound, near the Minley Interchange. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no injuries were reported.
Sterling, 31, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a specimen. He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Witness Accounts Detail Reckless Driving
The dashcam footage was provided by a driving instructor who was traveling with his family. He described the Lamborghini cutting him off without warning, forcing him to brake. “I dropped back. I’m a driving instructor after all,” the instructor stated.
He further recounted, “The car turned back into the inside lane but the driver put his foot down and veered right across all three lanes and seemed to just avoid hitting the central reservation. It’s a powerful car and he could have easily gone through the central reservation if he’d hit the accelerator.”
The witness added that the driver was “all over the place” and only identified Sterling after seeing news of his arrest. “I like Raheem but as a driving instructor I’m very concerned. He could have easily caused himself – and others – a great deal of harm. He was very fortunate that he did not do so.”
Another witness, a van driver who had been behind Sterling, reported beeping his horn due to concerns over the reckless driving. This witness also described Sterling driving on the wrong side of a slip road before the collision, which sent the Lamborghini airborne and caused it to spin.
Concerns Over Drug-Driving Statistics
The incident raises concerns about drug-driving, with official figures indicating that an estimated 124 people are killed annually in the UK in collisions involving a drug-impaired driver. Fatalities from drug-driving have seen a significant increase in recent years.
In a separate case, a dangerous driver and his passenger were recently jailed for a combined 23 years following a fatal crash after they were filmed inhaling nitrous oxide from balloons while speeding. This case highlights the severe consequences of impaired driving.
Sterling’s Career and Recent Struggles
Sterling, who last represented England in December 2022, began his career at QPR before breaking through at Liverpool. He later moved to Manchester City, where he enjoyed significant success, winning multiple trophies. His career has seen a more challenging period since his transfer to Chelsea in 2022, followed by a loan spell and a move to Dutch club Feyenoord.
Representatives for Raheem Sterling have declined to comment on the incident. A source close to the player has indicated that he has experienced significant psychological strain in recent years, citing isolation and persistent negativity surrounding his performances.
