Rangers receive a significant advantage in their pursuit of Southampton forward Cameron Archer, as the player was omitted from the Saints’ squad on Saturday amid ongoing transfer discussions. The Scottish club aims to secure a new striker for manager Danny Rohl’s team before Monday’s deadline.

Rangers’ Striker Search Intensifies

A proposed £3 million-plus deal for Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock has hit a snag, with the German side unwilling to release the player mid-season despite the attractive offer. This setback prompts Rangers to explore other options to bolster their attack, and Archer emerges as a prime candidate for a potential move to Ibrox.

The 24-year-old Englishman, known for his clinical finishing, has struggled to secure a consistent starting role at Southampton this season under managers Will Still and Tonda Eckert. He has made just six starts in the Championship, contributing four goals across all competitions.

Southampton Manager Addresses Archer’s Absence

Archer’s exclusion from Southampton’s 2-0 victory over Stoke City fueled speculation about his future. When questioned about the decision, manager Tonda Eckert acknowledged active negotiations.

“There’s been some conversations going on over the last few days, and I also think there will be some news over the next two days,” Eckert stated. “I wish I could say something, I just say these last days they’re always busy and there are so many conversations, but in both directions. Also for players coming in, sometimes you think you’re very close, sometimes you think you’re very far away, so let’s just see what the next days bring.”

Potential Alternatives for Rangers

While Archer brings proven goal-scoring potential from his youth career, Rangers may weigh risks associated with his recent form. The club already features talents like Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski, but seeks a dependable scorer to challenge Hearts in the standings.

As a backup plan, Rangers prepare to compete with Celtic for Motherwell’s Tawanda Maswanhise, positioning the young forward as a viable alternative if the Naderi transfer fails to materialize.
