Rebekah Vardy appears for the first time in the trailer for her husband Jamie Vardy’s Netflix documentary, UNTOLD UK: JAMIE VARDY, released on Wednesday. The 90-minute film traces Jamie’s journey from factory shifts and part-time non-league football to Premier League stardom, including periods of heavy drinking and partying.
Emotional Reflections on a Turbulent Rise
Rebekah looks visibly emotional in the trailer as she describes her husband’s career as ‘crazy’ and explains that they ‘couldn’t live a normal life’ after his Premier League breakthrough. Jamie calls his trajectory ‘crazy’ and admits, ‘I don’t know how I did it,’ with archive footage of his goals playing alongside.
Jamie describes himself as a ‘t**t’ when asked for a one-word self-assessment by producers. He states, ‘Making the jump from non-league football to the Premier League, I had to do everything to prove this is where I’m supposed to be.’
A Pivotal Intervention During Early Challenges
Rebekah recounts a key moment when Jamie missed her first pregnancy scan due to partying. She intervened by confronting him at a nightclub, crediting the conversation with saving his career. Jamie had signed with Leicester and was using alcohol to cope with pressure from past rejections.
She recalls telling him, ‘Jamie said he’d always been rejected and been told he wasn’t good enough. And so naturally you do start to believe that’s true. But I said to him, you are gonna screw everything up that you’ve worked so bl***y hard for if you don’t change your lifestyle choices.’
Rebekah adds, ‘I’m not telling you to stop drinking. I’m just telling you to rein it in. We talked for hours and hours and it was like therapy for him.’ Jamie turned things around quickly, later confirming it was ‘100 per cent what I needed.’
Meeting, Marriage, and Family
The couple met in 2014 when Rebekah organized Jamie’s 27th birthday party at The Viper Rooms nightclub in Sheffield. She became pregnant with their daughter Sofia just three months later. They married in 2016 at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, with guests including Louis Tomlinson, Tinchy Stryder, Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian, and Jamie’s Leicester City teammates.
Rebekah previously shared with I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! campmates about their first meeting: ‘He was the most demanding person you had ever met in your life, ever. He just pursued me. Anyway, we went out for a drink, and he’s just the most amazing person. He was so sweet, and that was it!’
They welcomed son Finlay in 2017 and daughter Olivia in 2020. Rebekah has Megan, 17, and Taylor, 11, from prior relationships; Jamie has adopted Megan. She is stepmother to his daughter Ella, 11, from a previous relationship.
The documentary premieres on Netflix on May 12.
