King Charles III and Queen Camilla radiated happiness as they attended the wedding of Peter Phillips, Princess Anne’s son. Following the ceremony, King Charles and Queen Camilla were among the first to depart. They were swiftly transported by helicopter from Gloucestershire to Epsom Downs in Surrey, anticipating the day’s prestigious horse racing event.
The King and Queen’s attendance at the Epsom Derby is seen as a significant endorsement of the annual event. Their presence continues a long-standing tradition established by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who rarely missed the races during her reign.
A Memorable Ceremony and Departure
As the church bells rang, onlookers cheered. Guests formed an impromptu umbrella guard of honor to shield the bride and groom from the elements as they emerged for photographs. Peter and Harriet stood under a large white umbrella with their three bridesmaids, waving to the assembled crowd before departing in a vintage Rolls-Royce.
Shortly after, Prince William and Kate Middleton also drew cheers as they departed in a black Audi, accompanied by a police escort.

The wedding festivities were managed by Bentley’s Entertainments, a firm with extensive experience in high-profile events, including previous royal weddings and celebrations for prominent figures.
Peter Phillips, currently nineteenth in line to the throne, and Harriet Sperling officially announced their engagement last August. Their families expressed their delight at the news.
It is anticipated that the King and Queen will attend the service but not the reception, opting instead to travel directly to the Epsom Derby. Guests will celebrate at a reception hosted by the groom’s family at Gatcombe Park.
The King and Queen’s presence at Epsom underscores their roles as patrons of the Jockey Club, which owns and operates the racecourse. Their visit follows their attendance at Oaks day in 2024 to present the Coronation Cup.

Jim Allen, Epsom’s general manager, expressed his honor and thrill at the King and Queen’s attendance. He highlighted their significant enthusiasm and support for British horseracing, noting that their presence would be a proud moment for the racecourse team and all associated with it.
