Actress Sally Field, known for her role alongside the late Dolly Parton in the beloved film Steel Magnolias, was observed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Saturday. This marks the first public appearance of the 79-year-old star since the passing of the country music icon, who died at the age of 80 on Tuesday following a brief illness.

Sally Field’s Appearance and Tribute

Field was photographed arriving at LAX accompanied by a relative. She was dressed casually in wide-leg light wash blue jeans, a blue button-up shirt, a black blazer, and an LA Dodgers baseball cap. Completing her ensemble were white sneakers with pink soles. She was accompanied by her small black dog, and her greying dark hair was visible beneath her hat. Square-shaped eyeglasses framed her face.

In the wake of Parton’s death, Field took to Instagram to share her grief and pay tribute to her former co-star. She posted a photograph featuring the cast of Steel Magnolias from the late 1980s set of the movie. Accompanying the image, Field wrote a heartfelt message:

‘If there are truly angels on earth, then we have just lost one. Dolly Parton. There will never be another. I adored her with all my heart and will always cherish our time together. Forever. Rest in peace beautiful Dolly.’

Remembering Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton’s death was confirmed on Tuesday through an Instagram video shared by her nephew and head of security, Bryan Seaver. According to reports, she passed away after being admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville on August 21. She had been receiving treatment for autoimmune and kidney issues.

Just four days prior to her death, Parton had expressed to a publication her desire to achieve ‘so many things,’ including the launch of a new hotel and museum in Nashville. Seaver’s video announcement, which Parton had requested years earlier, conveyed her nephew’s sentiments about her life and legacy. He described his aunt as someone who ‘lived in the light’ and is now ‘in the arms of Jesus,’ reunited with her late husband Carl Dean, her parents, and others who had longed to meet her.

Another notable figure from Steel Magnolias, Shirley MacLaine, 92, also shared a touching tribute. In a statement, MacLaine remarked, ‘God sent her to us, and she has returned home.’

Steel Magnolias and Parton’s Legacy

Steel Magnolias, the film that brought Parton and Field together, tells the story of a group of women in the American South who support each other through life’s various challenges. The film remains a cherished piece of cinema, celebrated for its portrayal of female friendship and resilience.

The impact of Dolly Parton’s life and career may soon be further recognized in her home state. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport are reportedly exploring the possibility of renaming the airport in her honor. Governor Lee has indicated discussions with Parton’s representatives regarding the proposal. Parton’s team has expressed openness to the idea, according to a joint press release from the governor and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority.

Governor Lee emphasized Parton’s profound connection to Tennessee, stating, ‘Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state. From her rural mountain home in East Tennessee to global stages, Dolly carried the Volunteer Spirit with her.’ He added that renaming the airport would be a fitting tribute, allowing ‘Tennessee to welcome the world’ and greet travelers with ‘the enduring legacy of Dolly’s music, generosity, faith, and kindness.’

Conclusion

The public sighting of Sally Field comes as the entertainment world and fans continue to mourn the loss of Dolly Parton. Field’s poignant tribute on Instagram underscores the deep bond formed during their time working together on Steel Magnolias, reflecting the widespread sentiment that Parton was a truly unique and beloved figure whose light will be deeply missed.
