Secret Service agents detained a man at a security checkpoint outside Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami on Saturday, triggering heightened alerts just days after a gunman targeted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Details of the Incident
Social media footage captures the individual being handcuffed after allegedly defying orders and becoming physical with an agent. Authorities transported him to a Miami correctional center, where officials charged him with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence. President Trump was not present at the golf course during the event.
The detention occurred as Trump National Doral hosts the Cadillac Championship, a prominent PGA Tour tournament featuring top players like Scottie Scheffler.
Secret Service Assurance
A Secret Service spokesperson in Miami confirmed that the situation did not affect security protocols for any protectees planning visits to the venue. The club recently unveiled a 15-foot gold statue of the president raising his fist triumphantly, echoing his gesture after the July 2024 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
Link to Prior Security Breach
The arrest follows a brazen attempt one week earlier by Cole Thomas Allen, 31, to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington. Guests included President Trump and senior officials. Video shows Allen charging agents with a shotgun, handgun, and knives, exchanging gunfire before Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were evacuated.
A Secret Service agent sustained a chest wound but escaped serious injury thanks to a ballistic vest. Allen faces federal charges, including attempted assassination of the president, which carries a potential life sentence. Additional counts involve transporting a firearm across state lines to commit a felony and using a firearm in a violent crime, with a mandatory minimum of 10 years and possible life imprisonment if the discharge is proven.
